Randy Kohrs is a Grammy award-winning multi-instrumentalist, producer, and engineer from Nashville, TN. Being an accomplished session musician Randy was fortunate to learn from the best producers and engineers like Chuck Ainlay or Gary Paczosa during tracking sessions in Nashville’s premier studios. In his career Randy has played on numerous records of legendary country artists like Jim Lauderdale, Dolly Parton, Dierks Bentley, Alison Krauss, and many more.
In this short segment of a longer interview with Randy at his own Slack Key Studio, he explains his approach to using preamps, why he doesn’t like to use a console, and how the RPQ500 is an ideal companion for his tracking philosophy of getting the sounds right there and then. He also shares with us how he tracked the upright bass on Jim Lauderdale’s record “Carolina Moonrise”.
